The District Attorney's office represents the people's interests in prosecuting criminal cases, seeking justice for victims, and advocating measures to reduce criminal behavior in our community. (Civil cases do not normally involve the DA's office unless there is evidence of criminal activity, such as fraud or extortion.)
Bill Thiebaut was installed as the District Attorney, Tenth Judicial District, Colorado on January 11, 2005. With the assistance of a dedicated staff, the office of the District Attorney has been modified to better reflect the priorities of the organization, and steps have been taken to focus on key areas designed to make Pueblo a safer place to live.
Most people know that the DA prosecutes crimes. This office does that -- over 10,000 cases per year -- but it also fills other roles. The DA's office is actively engaged in community programs to seek justice and compensation for victims, and assist with programs designed to prevent crimes and criminal behavior.
Key Policy Directions:
- Delivering Smart Justice to the community. Smart Justice requires case-by-case prosecution of criminals, and more. It also includes community based activities and programs to work on roots of criminal activity. For more information, view the New Directions Slide Show. - Reorganization of the Office to improve the focus of skills and specialties, and add a new unit dedicated to prosecution of "white collar" crime. For more information, click here
