Environmental Health

The mission of the Pueblo City-County Health Department is to assure conditions that enhance the health and the quality of life for the residents of the Pueblo community. The programs in the Environmental Health Division play a major role in achieving this vision. With each passing year, growth in our community and state continues. With such growth comes increasing citizen concern, greater complexity of environmental health issues and increasing demands on the staff to meet the needs of the citizens.

“The mission of the Environmental Health Division is to serve the populace of Pueblo County by means of skilled, professional staff, in order to modify environmental factors for the improvement of human health, aesthetics and quality of life according to community demands and expectations.”

The following guiding principles outline the professional ethic necessary to fulfill the mission:

  • We are committed to actions that enhance human health and preserve and restore the environment to the benefit of human health.
  • We will continue to participate in educating the public regarding environmental health matters.
  • We are committed to the principles of pollution prevention.
  • We will continue to support the development of technologically sound and economically responsible environmental laws and regulations.
  • We will continue to assess the impact of the work we do on the behalf of the public with a goal of continuous improvement.
  • We will continually monitor and assess our programs from a fiscal and technological aspect to be certain that we provide the most economical and efficient processes for achieving the end product.
